DAVIS TO RECEIVE 2007 ANTI-DEFAMATION LEAGUE MIAMI JURISPRUDENCE AWARD MIAMI, FL –- October 22, 2007 – The Honorable Edward B. Davis (Retired), shareholder and Chair of the Litigation Practice at Akerman Senterfitt, will be presented with the Anti-Defamation League Jurisprudence Award, November 7, in Miami. The ADL Jurisprudence Award was established to recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the legal profession and to the community at large, while working diligently to defend democratic ideals and to safeguard civil rights for all. The Awards luncheon will take place at the Radisson Hotel in Miami. Harvard Law School Professor Alan Dershowitz will be the special guest speaker. Judge Davis is a former Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and has devoted a substantial part of his practice to national and international mediation and arbitration. During his 21-year tenure on the bench, he served on the Board of Directors of the Federal Judges Association, and was a member of its Executive Committee. He also served on the Judicial Council of the 11th Circuit and was a member of its Executive Committee. Judge Davis was a member of the Judicial Conference Committee on the Administrative Office, and was appointed as Chair of that Committee by Chief Justice Rehnquist. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for Alternative Dispute Resolution and in Florida Trend's Legal Elite. Judge Davis earned a master in law in taxation at the New York University School of Law and received his law degree from the University of Florida College of Law, where he was the Executive Editor of the Law Review.
