Real Estate: North American Real Estate
Real estate, environmental, and land use attorneys from Canada, the United States, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Mexico are active in Interlaw’s NARE Special Business Team. They often rely on one another as counsel when real estate deals or litigation require local representation. Although open to anyone, a core group meets telephonically on a quarterly basis, and at least once annually. NARE members also get together informally at professional conferences such as the International Council of Shopping Centers, and Mortgage Bankers Association. NARE is developing several useful tools for one another, such as a LinkedIn site, and “Doing Deals Here” a primer in each location on the rules of retaining local counsel to navigate the market. Using their well-established relationships the group also promotes additional practices within each firm through its “Niche Practice” visibility program, which highlights specialties of members beyond the real estate practices areas.
